San Bernardino County IHSS under CDSS rules
San Bernardino County is the Inland Empire county that includes valley, mountain, and desert communities. That geography is real, and it is also a trap: families assume each region has a different IHSS. What IHSS is does not change with elevation. CDSS administers the program statewide. San Bernardino County social services takes the local case. DHCS administers Medi-Cal.
The eligibility list is the same list used in every other county: California residence, a Medi-Cal determination, living at home or in an abode of one’s own choosing, SOC 873 or accepted alternative documentation, and an in-home assessment. A hospital or licensed community care facility is not “own home,” whether that facility is in the valley or elsewhere.
