IHSS Provider Orientation: Online or In Person

Orientation is the required briefing
IHSS provider orientation explains why the session exists: recipient as employer, authorized tasks, timesheets, EVV when it applies, and the enrollment forms that go with the briefing. This page is the format question families actually ask: is it online, in a room, or something the county will describe on the phone? CDSS publishes an orientation process page as the statewide description. It is not a single classroom you can walk into from any county.
Ask the local Public Authority which session they use. Some counties schedule in-person meetings. Some use another format they will name. This site will not invent a statewide portal title, a seat count, or a calendar. The county office list is how you reach the people who book it.
Why format still does not skip the step
Whether you sit in a conference room or complete a county-named remote session, orientation is still required before pay. Help you already give is family help until enrollment and authorized timesheets are in place. Knowing how to bathe a parent is not the same as being enrolled. Bring whatever they say to bring. That may include identification for the rest of the packet. Do not assume the session files SOC 426 for you unless they say they will collect it there. Do not print a random slideshow from a search and treat it as completion. If the county uses a video or remote format, complete the whole sequence they name, including any quiz or signature page at the end.

- Can I skip orientation because I already care for my parent?
- Family experience does not replace the published orientation step. Adult children still attend. Ask about a makeup or alternate format if you cannot use the first date they name.
- Is there one statewide website every county uses?
- CDSS publishes an orientation-process page. Local delivery is county-specific. Use the format your Public Authority names rather than a portal you found in a search.
- Is orientation the same as the social worker visit?
- No. The visit assesses the recipient. Orientation is for the person who wants to be the provider. They can happen in either order.
- Do two siblings both attend if they share hours?
- Yes. Each person who wants to be paid completes orientation. One sibling’s session does not cover the other.
