Filing SOC 295 starts an IHSS case. It does not finish one. The usual sequence after the application is a completeness check, worker assignment, the home visit, a Notice of Action, and provider enrollment that may already be in motion. Families who expect a paycheck from the drop-off date get discouraged in the quiet stretch. That stretch is normal. How IHSS works is the full map. This page is the after-you-filed stretch. Completeness checks after SOC 295
The county looks for a usable application: signatures, a name that matches Medi-Cal, an address that looks like a home, and the Health Care Certification. SOC 873, or acceptable alternative documentation, must reach the county before services are authorized. A blank medical form, a missing signature, or a packet stuffed with unrequested hospital records can send the file back.
