When a family is giving care at home

If someone in your congregation or circle is helping a parent stay home, California In-Home Supportive Services may be a program to learn about. This page is orientation. The county still decides.

  • An adult child, relative, or friend can often become the paid IHSS provider after county enrollment.
  • The person who needs care is the applicant and, later, the employer of the provider.
  • Help the family find the county IHSS page and the official CDSS office list. Do not invent a phone number from memory.
  • SOC 295 starts the IHSS file. SOC 873 is the medical piece a licensed health professional completes.
  • If they want a coordinator to walk through paperwork, use the short link or QR to Ask for help.

Official pages: CDSS IHSS, county IHSS offices, DHCS Medi-Cal.

Print this for a care cabinet or pastor’s office. Keep medical details off this page and in the county packet.

QR-friendly short URLs

These URLs stay short on a printed page. Scan the mark or type the address. Official county phones still come from the CDSS office list.

See if IHSS may apply

A coordinator can walk through Medi-Cal, county forms, and the home visit with you. The county still decides eligibility and hours.

For example: starting an IHSS application, provider enrollment, or county forms. Keep medical records and diagnoses for the county packet.
