IHSS next to other home supports

Families often hear IHSS, Medi-Cal, regional center services, and respite in the same sentence. They are different programs with different applications. This note keeps the IHSS lane clear.

  • IHSS is a Medi-Cal program administered by CDSS and run by county social services offices.
  • Regional center services follow an Individual Program Plan. That plan does not replace SOC 873 or the IHSS notice.
  • Respite and IHSS can appear in the same household. They still use separate authorizations. See the respite versus IHSS guide on this site.
  • Point families to the county where the person lives, then to the CDSS county IHSS office list.
  • California Home Help can help an adult child organize the packet. The county still files and decides.

These URLs stay short on a printed page. Scan the mark or type the address. Official county phones still come from the CDSS office list.

See if IHSS may apply

A coordinator can walk through Medi-Cal, county forms, and the home visit with you. The county still decides eligibility and hours.

For example: starting an IHSS application, provider enrollment, or county forms. Keep medical records and diagnoses for the county packet.
