What is skilled nursing care?

Skilled nursing is licensed nursing or therapy that Medicare may cover for a limited stay after a qualifying hospital period. Long-term custodial nursing-home care is a different payer.

Who decides

Medicare and the plan decide a skilled stay. The facility bills. Medi-Cal may be involved later for a long-term nursing-facility stay. County IHSS does not pay that bed.
