Home-care help in San Francisco
Updated September 16, 2026. Reviewed September 16, 2026 against public CDSS, DHCS, Medicare.gov, VA, and CareScout 2025 California tables. County wages, hours, and wait times still change. Official .gov pages decide.
San Francisco is a city and a county in one office. A parent in the Sunset and a parent in a Japantown senior building still use the City and County of San Francisco IHSS page. Steep walks and elevator rules belong in the agency conversation. Daly City is a different county if the parent moves.
If you are the adult child
If you live in Berkeley and the parent lives on Nob Hill, file IHSS in San Francisco. If the parent later moves to Daly City, that is a San Mateo County transfer, not a first San Francisco application. Small-city geography still follows county lines.
Settings in this metro
Private-pay quotes in the city are often described as high. This page still uses the CareScout California statewide median rather than inventing a San Francisco private-pay table. Compare the agency’s written rate with the calculator, then read the San Francisco IHSS page for the public path.
